Below are photos of Mars between July 27, 2003 and August 28, 2003, which is a summary of my Mars 2003 results. Notice how the size of the planet increases as mars approaches opposition and the polar cap decreases as the planet gets closer to the sun. Also note how we see different parts of the planet in each photo. The early photos shows Mars to be slightly in the gibbous phase. |
The Mars opposition of 2003. This was my first attempt at photographing Mars with a 3com WebConnect webcam at the focus of my f/15 7" LX-50 Meade Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope. Note that all image are taken with the south pole up. I find this orientation more pleasing. Also, this is the inverted image that is normally observed in a telescope. |
